Firearm issue 4
Just about every comic book artist on Earth hits the wall at some point; circumstances beyond your control swoop in to throw you off your game and make it impossible to hit your monthly deadline. I don’t know exactly what circumstances struck penciler Cully Hamner on this issue of Firearm, but it resulted in Editor Hank Kanalz assigning me with the task of standing in for him.
Cully had already laid out the whole thing, and I took it from there by enlarging his thumbnails to full size and working on top of them. I’d been lettering the comic since the start, so I had a good handle on Cully’s style, enough to preserve the flavor. Inker John Lowe did the rest.
I didn’t save copies of all my pages for some reason, but I kept the first 18. Here they are along with the thumbnails for comparison.
Easter egg: look for a cameo of the Millennium Falcon. That warmed my heart quite a bit.
