Blue Knight Berserga Story 2

Author: Masanori Hama
Illustrator: Hiroyuki Hataike

1985 Blurb:

Before my eyes stood the Shadow Flare I had pursued. Just one more movement. If I just squeezed the trigger, everything would be over. But I couldn’t fire. I was overwhelmed by the terrifying pressure emanating from the Shadow Flare. While I was paralyzed, the wheel dogs attacked me, brandishing their electric rods. With most of Berserga’s functions disabled, the Shadow Flare delivered a finishing blow with its iron claw.

Although Mima’s troops barely managed to rescue me, I was severely injured and Berserga had suffered a major blow. But more than anything, I was mentally devastated. Revenge would be impossible unless I could track down the source of the Shadow Flare’s oppressive power and obtain a weapon capable of countering it. As I writhed in anxiety, the terrifying mystery of the Shadow Flare and the paranormal organization gradually became clear.

This is the final chapter of a shocking inside story set in the world of Armored Trooper Votoms.

When I finally got my chance to confront the Shadow Flare in the city of Arg, I was met with unfathomable power and intimidation. Paralyzed and unable to move, consumed with a desire for revenge, I was attacked by A.T.s from the military police. Though I barely made it out, I was seriously injured, and Berserga had been severely damaged. Beaten down, I discovered the terrifying mystery of the paranormal organization and Chris Kurtz, the man who controls the Shadow Flare.

Masanori Hama
Real name: Hisato Shimogouchi. He was born in Fukushima Prefecture on August 7, 1963, but has since moved around so much he seems to lack any concept of a hometown. Perhaps for this reason, while he’s interested in creating stories, he’s not attached to any particular genre. He suddenly started writing manga, and lives life as he pleases. Incidentally, he recently explained that the origin of his pen name comes from “if you read the thing Kintaro is carrying in English and misread it a little…”

2017 Blurb:

PROLOGUE: ASTRAGIUS YEAR 7213…AFTER WAR

Dark, stagnant, and oppressively heavy air—the Astragius Galaxy, where the word “decadence” fits the cityscape perfectly. The Hundred Years’ War that split it in two ended in an indecisive ceasefire.

The spirits of the people are hardened, and the soldiers left behind have no way to survive other than fighting.

I, Kain McDougal, was one of those Votoms pilots…

Darkness, multiple spotlights. Steel walls surround us on all sides. The piercing gazes of hundreds of men. The war is not over. At least among Votoms pilots…that is battling.

The ghosts of the Hundred Years’ War still return to the arena today, thirsting for blood.

— Sha Bak —

A friend died there…

Exhaustion and revival. The crowds. A city where countless energies blend together. Its name is Arg.

Walking, relying only on my sharpened senses. There I find the one I’m searching for.

— Shadow Flare

Chris Kurtz, the sworn enemy of my late friend. Burning with murderous intent, his gun is aimed at me.

The year 7215 of the Astragius calendar, and then…

A black machine races forward.
A swing of the iron claw tears through steel.
— Flash —
— Explosion —
— Scarlet flames —
But all I can hear is the beating of my heart.
The ferocious beast still lies in wait—

The door opens.
Slowly, surely.
Wonder awakens. Mystery twinkles.
— Berserga —
You’ve begun to move. Who are you?

Still to come

Wolf of fury
Tiger of Rage
A jungle dominated by screams
A river stained with blood
There, I saw the pulsing of a vast darkness

Still to come

Scorching flames consume me
A fight to the death that everyone despised.
But the ferocious beast
had forgotten what to fear.
— fire cask —
The boiling lava was the red of fresh blood.

Still to come

A farce that lasted two long years
— ceasefire —
The gears that had gone awry
will never return to normal.
And then—
From the darkness, I heard the stirrings of a rematch…

Still to come
