Judge Dredd annuals, 1981-1995

Four years after 2000AD annuals made their debut, Judge Dredd earned his own spot in this rarified arena. They were published every August, bearing the cover date of the year that followed, meaning the 1981 annual came out in August 1980.

The lessons had been learned from the early 2000AD annuals, making these books feel more focused and connected to the ongoing weekly comics. Clocking in at between 90 and 100 pages, they offered new color stories by favorite artists, a few reprints from the progs, articles about making Dredd, in-universe features that expanded the world, and other odds and ends.

As time went on and the Dredd world grew, the annuals evolved into yearbooks and broke ground for the Judge Dredd Megazine in 1990.
