Judge Dredd Megazine 273-308
This stretch included two nearly-synchronous landmarks; issue 300 and the 20th anniversary issue (302) with a dream team cover collaboration by two of the best 2000AD artists of the 80s: Glenn Fabry and Simon Bisley. There was another facelift with issue 275, where the price jumped from £2.99 to £4.99, but not without reason. Starting here, the Megazine came bagged with a supplemental 64-page reprint magazine that plumbed the archives for a different subject each issue. They went all over the map from Dredd serials to classic non-Dredd strips to encyclopedias; a true cornucopia of riches. They lasted all the way through issue 450, delivering an amazing total of 176 supplements.
The Megazine itself held at 64 pages with four regular strips and several interviews, reviews, and articles. Tank Girl, a cult fave from the 90s, came back for a new outing and became the placeholder for a regular non-Dredd strip going forward. With issue 300, the price bumped up again (to £5.99) along with the page count (to 82), and then settled back down to £5.49 and 64 with issue 304. With the continuing supplements doubling the page count, no one could argue that they weren’t getting their money’s worth.
