Judge Dredd Megazine Volume 3 (part 1)
The shift from “Volume 2” to “Volume 3” only came with two significant changes: the logo was redesigned and the cover price jumped 20p to £1.80. Content, format and page count were the same. However, when you look at the broader context at the time, something VERY significant was happening: the Judge Dredd movie premiere. This was all the motivation needed for Fleetway Editions to start over with a 1st issue, a very common practice for comic publishers in the 90s when they were all chasing after speculator money.
If there was a trend in this batch, it might be “crossovers,” since Dredd had more interaction with the main characters of other strips. Easy, since they’re all set in the same world. On the other hand, a crossover of a different kind occurred when a co-pro with Dark Horse Comics pitted Dredd against Predator, a fracas that lasted for three issues.
Finally, after going fortnightly [biweekly] with Volume 2 in May 1992, frequency shifted back to monthly in February 1996, much to the relief of overseas readers like me who now had less to chase after.
